AECOM-led JV to provide design services for Sardinia airport expansion

Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport in Sardinia has awarded a contract to an AECOM-led joint venture (JV) to deliver engineering and architecture design services for its expansion.

AECOM will oversee work on the passenger terminal, car rental terminal, aircraft apron areas and terminal ground access area.

Led by AECOM, the JV also includes SPEA Engineering, Satta & Partners Archigroup and Engineer Boneddu.

The JV will monitor all phases of the project such as feasibility, design study and on-site supervision.

AECOM’s Spanish and Italian teams will serve as lead designer. They will manage the design of the architecture and MEP (mechanical, electrical and plumbing), organise the environmental consultancy and coordinate the whole project.

The airport’s operator Geasar believes that, after the project’s completion, the increased airport capacity will pave the way for higher passenger numbers.

Geasar expects annual passenger numbers to increase to 4.5 million by 2030 and 6.2 million by 2040.

AECOM Spain country manager Javier Camy said: “This is a project that will reposition AECOM at the forefront of airport engineering. In addition, thanks to our diversity of experts, we can continue to provide services through all phases of the project.

“The extensive track record of the company’s professionals and their experience in a highly competitive environment have enabled AECOM to manage from the Madrid office and in an integral way, from its design to its completion, its transport projects throughout the world.”
