Austin-Bergstrom generates nearly $8bn in economic activity, report finds

Autstin-Bergstrom International Airport in the US state of Texas generated $7.6bn in economic activity last year, in 2017. This has increased by 212pc from $2.4bn seven years ago in 2010.

A study by the Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) found that the Austin region benefits economically in the sum of billions from the airport and it supports more than 74,000 jobs.

Passengers numbers at the airport have increased significantly since 2010, while food sales at the airport are also on a notable high.

The report found that Texas airports overall contributed $94.3bn in statewide economic activity last year. This was a combination of economic activity generated by the commercial and general aviation industries.

The aviation industry in Texas supports 778,000 jobs with a payroll of $30.1bn.
