Aviation Charity Encourages Companies to Fundraise for Christmas

Aviation Action, a charity created to support the aviation industry, has launched its very first national fundraising campaign and it wants to encourage companies to sign their staff up in the absence of any Christmas celebrations.

The Run the Runways fundraising campaign was launched at the start of October and is set to get started on 1st December when runners will be virtually running the runway length of Birmingham Airport. Each day after this, throughout December, runners will be running a different runway length each day to try and raise £10,000 for Aviation Action. This includes Christmas Day where runners will be attempting to run the 3,003m length of Rovaniemi Airport in Lapland.

The charity’s founder, Chris Wild, said “We know Christmas is not going to be the same this year and people working in the industry will be going without Christmas drinks and parties. We want to encourage company bosses to sign their teams up and motivate them to get active this December but also create some team spirit.”

The Run the Runways organising team also hopes that this could create some friendly rivalry between employees as well as between airports and aviation companies to bring some fun to the online team calls.

Rob O’Dare, from the Bristol Airport team has been a long-time advocate and supporter of Aviation Action and said;  “The Christmas period for airports will be a bit different this year but the spirit remains!  At Bristol Airport the ‘Run the Runways’ challenge has been taken up from the highest level with our CEO and other members of the Executive Team getting involved. We hope it will help get the whole Bristol team active, as well as providing a team competition that will add a little cheer in the lead up to an end of a very challenging year.”

Supporters of Aviation Action are encouraged to register for the virtual event at www.aviationaction.org/run and then collect donations through the team crowdfunding page – www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/runtherunways.

Entry costs just £25 (plus small admin fee) and includes a commemorative t-shirt (terms and conditions apply), membership to the Facebook community and a finishers medal.
