BA facing costly legal battle following data breach

British Airways is reportedly facing a multi-mullion pound lawsuit from its customers on top of a possible fine following the recent data breach at the airline which compromised customers’ financial details.

Up to 380,000 passengers have been affected by the data breach, in which criminals stole bank details.

BA is facing a fine to the sum of 500m GBP from the Information Commissioner’s Officer due to the data breach.

Under new GDPR regulations recently put into place in the UK and Europe, companies can be fined for substantial data breaches that affect customers.

The airline has committed to financially reimbursing customers and cover the losses accumulated due to the breach.

The work of the hack was ‘malicious’ and ‘sophisticated’, according to the airline.
