Beijing Daxing selects Xsight Systems’ FOD detection solution for runways

Beijing Daxing International Airport, currently under construction, has chosen Xsight System’s foreign object debris (FOD) detection solution for its East and North runways.

This is the second time Xsight has been awarded a contract in China this year, with Beijing Capital International Airport also selecting their FOD solution for installation on its East Runway.

“We are proud that Xsight’s global reputation as an industry leader is acknowledged by the Chinese aviation market,” said Alex Koren, CEO of Xsight Systems.

“As China is becoming the largest aviation market, with intensive growth in air traffic, grows the need for a runway threat detection solution to boost both safety and capacity of airport runways.”

The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) has said it aims to have 450 airports by 2035, almost doubling its current number, to meet growing demands for air travel.

FOD and environmental threats on the runway cost the aviation industry almost $12 billion each year, and so solutions to prevent this increase airport capacity, as well as safety and efficiency.

The two Beijing airports join several others around the world to opt for this FOD technology, including Boston Logan International Airport, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, Tel Aviv Ben-Gurion International Airport and Bangkok Suvarnabhumi International Airport.
