Airside International reported yesterday that the Airport Operators Association (AOA) announced the beginning of UK Airports Safety Week as the organisation supported a drive to educate and promote airside safety at airports in the UK. Birmingham Airport has just outlined its plans to participate in the event.
The airport stated: “Birmingham Airport is participating in the ‘UK Airports Safety Week’, a national event with a focus on aviation safety which starts today (Monday 14th May).
The week-long initiative is run in conjunction with the Airport Operators Association (AOA) and supported by the Civil Aviation Authority.
Bob Graham, Operations Director at Birmingham Airport, said: “Health and Safety is vitally important to the running of the airport and departments from across the site strictly follow policies and practices to ensure the highest safety standards are met.
“AOA Safety Week offers us a great opportunity to engage with staff across the whole airport community and with the travelling public to show the training and work that goes into ensuring visitors and staff are kept safe and secure.”
A range of activities and demonstrations are planned across the Midlands based airport site throughout the week to raise awareness of safety practices with employees and the public and to get them involved.
Activities such as airside driving and marshalling awareness tasks, aircraft pushback demonstrations, safety quizzes, Foreign Object Debris (FOD) site walks and presentations on the importance of occupational health are some of the activities planned for staff.
For the public there will be terminal activities and competitions, liquid preparation advice for passing security along with pop-up safety information stands and plenty of social media activity to get everyone involved under #UKAirportsSafetyWeek”.
