As part of a robust construction plan, the City of Williston selected Burns & McDonnell and Alliance Consulting to design and bid key elements of the new Williston Basin International Airport. The team is working on a series of projects, including runway, apron, access road, perimeter fence, electrical vault, rental car facility and runway visual aid support structures design.

“We’re making significant progress on the Williston Basin International Airport and we’ve selected strong partners to help us stay on schedule and under budget,” says Anthony Dudas, airport director.

“Burns & McDonnell and Alliance Consulting have a proven track record of delivering high-quality, innovative solutions. We’re looking forward to working with them to complete foundational aspects of our airport.”

Burns & McDonnell and Alliance Consulting are providing design, bid and construction services for a 4,500-foot-long crosswind runway including airfield lighting and paved markings, a 450,000-square-foot aviation parking apron, 5 miles of perimeter and access roads, 6 miles of 10-foot-tall wildlife perimeter fencing, and the airfield electrical vault to power airfield lighting.

The team is also working on an employee parking area and a four-bay quick-turnaround rental car facility. Construction is expected to be complete by 2019.

“The Williston Basin International Airport is a great addition to the thriving Williston community,” says Andy Loftus, Burns & McDonnell project manager. “We’re proud to work with Alliance Consulting to deliver projects that will help the new airport meet Federal Aviation Administration design standards and airline needs.”

Burns & McDonnell is among the top five largest aviation consultants in the United States and has provided services for more than 350 airports around the world, including several in the Midwest: Duluth International Airport, Kansas City International Airport, Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport and O’Hare International Airport.

“We’re expanding our presence and aviation capabilities in the Upper Midwest to help support growing aviation infrastructure needs,” says Gene Sieve, Burns & McDonnell vice president and general manager of the Minneapolis-St. Paul office.

“We look forward to taking on more complex, fast-paced airport projects across the region.”
