GTMC, the body that names itself the voice for the business travel community has commented positively on the vote to expand Heathrow Airport.
Adrian Parkes, CEO, GTMC comments:
“We welcome the result of last night’s vote in the House of Commons regarding the expansion of a third runway. This represents another important step forward in the expansion of routes both in and out of the UK to support the business travel community and in turn wider economic growth.
It is also crucial to recognise the focus of regional connectivity with the pledge to attribute 15 percent of slots to domestic routes. This translates into another key development towards rebalancing economic opportunity outside of London and the South East.
“Our own research, in partnership with Oxford Economics, highlights the value of international business travel and emphasises that the average international business travel air trip triggers a £34,000 contribution to gross domestic product.
It is encouraging to see that MP’s also recognise this impact following the result of last night’s vote.”
