Canada further invests in security at its airports

Today, the Honourable Marc Garneau, Minister of Transport, announced a $3,930,528 Government of Canada investment for the rehabilitation of airside pavement at the Michel-Pouliot Gaspé Airport.

A fully rebuilt and up-to-date runway, free of cracks and with proper drainage, is key in ensuring safe usage by aircraft, passengers, and crews, and for protecting costly airport safety assets such as snow clearing equipment and aircraft rescue firefighting vehicles.

The funding comes from Transport Canada’s Airports Capital Assistance Program (ACAP).

The minister stated, “The Government of Canada recognizes the important role played by Canada’s local airports in supporting jobs and tourism, enabling investment and facilitating trade.

Our investments are helping airports increase safety and accessibility for residents and travellers, while supporting the continued growth of local and regional economies.”
