Cathay Pacific: Data breach has affected 9.4m customers

A recent data breach at Cathay Pacific is to effect 9.4 million passengers as personal data has been accessed by hackers.

Personal data such as email addresses, passport numbers and credit card details were among the details accessed by those responsible for the breach.

The Chef Executive of the airline, Rupert Hogg apologised to customers and stated that there was “no evidence” that information had been “misused”.

Although a large amount of personal data was accessed, it has been reported that no passwords were compromised.

The airline, based in Hong Kong, sad it was in the process of contacting the passengers that have been affected.

As reported by the BBC, Hogg noted “We acted immediately to contain the event, commence a thorough investigation with the assistance of a leading cybersecurity firm, and to further strengthen our IT security measures”.
