Source: Associated Press.

A huge explosion and fire emitting from a petrochemical storage warehouse close to Cairo International Airport lit up the sky in the Egyptian city last night.

It was reported by state news agency MENA that twelve people were injured in the blast following the Heliopolis for Chemical Industries-owned explosion.

The state agency noted that the explosion was caused by high temperatures in the region with the sound of the blast echoing across the region.

The civil aviation authority in the country stated that air traffic to and from the airport was not affected by the explosion.

Defence trucks were sent to the site in order to keep the fire under control.
