Chennai Airport in India is to introduce a simulator to train those driving terminal buses and those operating pushback tractors.
The airport noted that the simulator was imperative as a few minor accidents on the ramp caused concerns for safety.
The training will benefit ground handlers who are in constant interaction with airside vehicles and ground support equipment.
According to The Hindu, those who will be trained include emergency response teams, various airline’s staff and ground handling agencies.
The report notes that an official at the airport noted “A few months ago, an airline’s ground staff manning a tow truck hit an aircraft and there was a minor damage.
Though it was not a serious incident, we want to take steps to prevent major accidents. Another reason is that we notice these staff indulging in rash driving sometimes and it may lead to a serious accident one day”.
