Emirates to build ‘world’s largest’ vertical farm near Al Maktoum airport

Emirates has invested $40m in building the world’s largest vertical farm close to Al Maktoum International Airport, which will soon break ground.

Global Construction Review stated that the middle-east airline will build the farm and produce food for on board meals and departure lounges.

The airline will be working with US-based firm, Crop One Holdings to build the 12,000 sq m building.

When ‘fully operational’ the facility will aim to produce nearly 3,000kg of greens every day.

Building on the facility is due to begin in November 2018, next month. First yields are due to arrive in December 2019.
