European Commission omits airlines from Indonesia from safety list

The European Commission has removed all airlines from Indonesia on the EU Air Safety List following improvements to the airline’s in terms of safety.

The list includes airlines that do meet international safety standards and therefore are not permitted to operate in the European Union.

All carriers operating out of Indonesia were placed on the list in 2007 following safety concerns that were going unaddressed. Since then, some have been removed but the majority were still on the list.

Commissioner for Transport Violeta Bulc stated on the matter: “The EU Air Safety List is one of our main instruments to continuously offer the highest level of air safety to Europeans. I am particularly glad that after years of work, we are today able to clear all air carriers from Indonesia.

It shows that hard work and close cooperation pay off. I am also satisfied that we now have a new warning system to prevent unsafe aircraft from entering European airspace.”
