First winter snow delays ground handling processes in Hungary

Snowfall in Hungary has caused major delays at Budapest Airport on Monday morning in Budapest, local media reported.

Due to black ice and mandatory aircraft de-icing, the ground handling process is slower than usual. Delays should be expected,” Budapest Airport claimed in a statement.

We ask passengers to keep an eye on Budapest Airport’s flight information, and to contact your airline, if necessary,” it said.

The airport announced delays, mainly with departing flights. On the arrival side, half an hour delays were expected, but some departing flights were expected to be hours late.

Disruptions have also reported at Budapest’s roads and Western Railway Station.

Budapest Mayor Gergely Karacsony has called on volunteers to help clean the streets.

While in the northern, eastern and central parts of Hungary, roads were wet and snowy as a result of rain and snowfall, Hungarian news agency MTI reported.

The snowfall is expected to cease on Monday afternoon, but the temperatures will remain under zero degree Celsius for most of the week.
