Group warns EU it will miss aviation emissions target with Corsia

The Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (Corsia) will mean the EU  will miss its 2030 aviation emissions target by nearly 100m tonnes if adopted, a group has stated.

The report, as drafted by Transport and Enviroment, based in Brussels, posed to the EU notes that Corsia will allow airlines to offset emissions growth rather than reduce them.

The group stated that Corsia will mean a ‘financial windfall for airlines’ and it will be a ‘cheap and ineffective’ in the battle against emissions growth.

The EU aims to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 40pc from 1990 to 2030.
