Hamad International Airport records busiest ever second quarter

Hamad International Airport (HIA) has seen a record breaking second quarter in 2019, with a total of 9.38 million passengers passing through the airport.

The total is an 18.9 per cent rise on last year during the same period, which also saw a 5.48 per cent increase in aircraft movements year-over-year at the Qatar airport, with a total of 56,452 aircraft movements handled.

“We are happy to witness these extremely positive results in the second quarter of 2019,” said Chief Operating Officer Engr. Badr Mohammed Al Meer.

“This growth momentum in passenger numbers reflects HIA’s commitment to working continuously to strongly grow the airport and ensure it to be the experience of choice for all travellers.

“It is also a testament to the rapid growth of Qatar Airways which currently operates a modern fleet of more than 250 aircraft via its hub at HIA to more than 160 destinations worldwide.”

The national carrier, Qatar Airways, has opened new destinations from the airport, with Davao, the Philippines, Malta and Lisbon all joining the network in June.

The airport has also received the “Best Airport for Passenger Experience” ranking from AirHelp and came second in the Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards for international airports.
