Hamburg airport to launch self bag drop kiosks later this month

Self bag drop is the new, fully automated baggage check-in system at Hamburg Airport, allowing passengers to process their check-in quickly and in comfort regardless of counter opening times and helping to avoid queues. The solution was developed jointly by Hamburg Airport and the Dortmund-based IT specialist Materna.

Since November 2017, ten of the new kiosks are available for passengers in Terminal 1. This is the most extensive installation of such facilities at a German airport. Initially, Air France, KLM and easyJet will be offering the self bag drop service to their passengers. Over time, other airlines will join them.

Hamburg Airport will shed light on the strategic significance of the new service for the airport. Materna will provide an overview of the market situation and the special features of the self bag drop solution.
