Legal challenges to the proposed expansion of Heathrow’s third runway have been greenlit for a full hearing. The hearing will potentially go ahead next year.

Five legal challenges were posed against the expansion: from the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan; Neil Spurrier; Heathrow Hub; Friends of the Earth and Plan B.

In March 2019, the hearing will go ahead and aims to be an obstacle to the government’s approval of expansion at Heathrow Airport.

The legal challenges are based upon concerns of sustainability and the environment and how the expansion will affect public transport n the UK – specifically London.

The Department of Transport in the UK says it has anticipated the challenges and will robustly defend its support of the third runway.
