London Stansted’s new departure lounge seating increases capacity

London Stansted Airport has three brand new seating areas, created in its busy departure lounge, which has increased capacity by 40 percent.

The improvements, which are part of the £600 million Stansted Transformation Project, have created a comfortable seating area with room for more than 1000 passengers in the main departure lounge.

Linsey Miller, head of terminal operations at London Stansted, said: “It has updated the area and offers much-needed additional seating and device charging points, while the curved design and layout of the furniture means passengers feel a sense of space while seated.

The new seating areas include 436 new USB and USC charging points, with ‘leaf lamps’ around the area providing ambient lighting.

Ms Miller said: “We are in a really exciting time for London Stansted and this is just one example of the many planned developments in the terminal building which will transform the experience for millions of passengers travelling through the airport.”

Within the lounge, a dedicated family seating area has also been created, offering bench seating for groups travelling with young children. There is also a new quiet seating area, with 208 seats, downstairs from the lounge, away from retail units and passenger thoroughfares.

The third new area, on the way to satellite 3 gates, offers 160 additional seats.
