Manchester Airport’s Community Trust Fund hands out almost £100,000 to local groups so far this year.
Thirteen community groups from across Greater Manchester and Cheshire have received a cash boost in July thanks to Manchester Airport’s Community Trust Fund.
More than £98,000 has been handed out to groups in 2018 so far, with the airport donating in excess of £100,000 per year, and £3.4m since the Community Trust Fund began in 1997.
The groups receiving grants spread throughout Greater Manchester and Cheshire.
In April, The Friends of Romiley Station secured £2,000 towards murals of local scenes to decorate eleven windows on the station platform. The paintings will be sketched by a local artist before being completed by the community in a variety of painting workshops.
Alfred Clark, Chair of The Friends of Romiley Station, said: “The station is used by almost the entire community at some time each year, be it for the daily commute, the shopping trip to Manchester or for gaining access to the splendour of the Peak District.
Whilst the station is much brighter than it was, users have been putting up with some poorly maintained buildings, but that is about to change and it is the community as a whole that are helping to make the change thanks to superb grant funding from the Manchester Airport Community Trust Fund.
Hundreds of local people, plus some visitors from overseas, have taken part and have had a superb time painting the various scenes.”
Hall Lane Quality Action Group, from Wythenshawe, received £2,400 in July towards purchasing a solar panel kit that enables them to water their vegetable plot whilst being sustainable as it doubles up as a watering butt.
The group is made up of parents and carers of adults with profound learning, physical and complex needs who attend day time support at Hall Lane Resource Centre in Baguley.
Lynda Gathercole, from Hall Lane Quality Action Group, said: “We are delighted to have been awarded a grant to purchase a solar panel kit to run a watering system for Hall Lane Horticultural Project sited at the rear of the centre.
Over the past few years the gardens have been transformed due the hard work and commitment of centre staff, centre users, friends, local and national businesses.
We would like to say a huge thank you for the grant as it has had a massive impact on our service and the facilities we can offer.”
