Menzies Aviation’s acquisition of Airline Services approved by CMA

The UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has given its approval for Menzies Aviation to acquire Airline Services—a leading aircraft presentation and de-icing specialist.

The successful purchase of Airline Services will make Menzies the largest provider of aircraft de-icing services across the UK.

Jamie Ross, executive vice president at EMEA said: “Since the acquisition of Airline Services in April 2018, we have been working hard to gain regulatory approval from the CMA, and I am delighted that we can now officially welcome our Airline Services colleagues into the Menzies Aviation family.

“We now have the opportunity to strengthen our ground handling, de-icing, and aircraft presentation offerings in the UK, securing our place as the aviation services provider of choice.”

Menzies’ UK & Ireland business will now operate at 13 locations, offering aircraft presentation and de-icing services at the nine airports where Menzies already operate, alongside four additional airports where Menzies did not have a previous presence.

This increased geographical reach strengthens Menzies’ existing market position, expanding its service to offer new and existing airline customers a wider range of locations.

The acquisition was completed in 2018 but Menzies self-referred the deal to the CMA, who carried out an assessment of competitive issues. Now that the acquisition has been approved by the CMA, Airline Services will be integrated into Menzies Aviation’s business.

The acquisition sees 900 Airline Services employees join Menzies Aviation.
