Moldova’s Chisinau International Airport acquires new owners

Chisinau Airport, Moldova’s sole international airport, has announced that 95 per cent of its concession company is to be acquired by a Guernsey property investment vehicle.

Representatives of NR Investments’ sole beneficiary, Nat Rothschild, reached an agreement with Avia Invest LLC, which has operated and managed Chisinau International Airport since November 2013 as concessionaire.

The private-public model under which the airport was run included a three-stage investment programme which was determined over six years.

Avia oversaw a modernisation programme during this time, installing a new passenger terminal and multi-level car park, upgrading the runway and apron and updating other parts of the airport infrastructure.

The investment company also marketed the airport to attract new carriers, resulting in sixteen airlines now including the airport in their networks.

The acquisition is the latest in a long line of varied central European purchases by NR Investments, which has previously put money into: Porto Montenegro, an award-winning super yacht marina; Trigranit, Central Europe’s largest real estate developer; the Korda Studios film complex in Budapest, Hungary, and several other stand-alone developments across the region.

“NR Investments has an extensive track record and experience in Central European property and infrastructure investments,” said Chisinau Airport in a statement, adding that further announcements will be made in September.
