San Jose airport to go dark for 4th July fireworks

Mineta San Jose International Airport has announced that it will suspend all aircraft movements to allow a firework celebration on the 4th of July: Independence Day in the US.

The airport will suspend all arrivals and departures from the airport between 9.30pm and 10pm to allow the Rotary Fireworks display to go ahead at Discovery Meadow Park in downtown Jose, California.

The city has been working with the airport for the last two months to coordinate the event. Airlines and private pilots were notified of the closure six weeks ago.

It was reported that the city will not lose any money during the stoppage at the San Jose airport.
