Saratov Airlines crash: pilots refused de-icing, may have led to crash

A Saratova Airlines passenger jet, which crashed shortly after take-off from Russia’s Domodedovo airport over the weekend, may have been caused by iced over speed sensors.

The pilots of the aircraft declined a de-icing of the plane before it took off, which may have caused speed sensors to ice over and give the pilots incorrect speed data.

Once the pilots discovered the error, they turned off the autopilot and led the plane into a dive, ultimately the plane crashing minutes after take off.

All 71 people on board were killed in the crash.
