Southend becomes first airport in UK to install de-icing facility

Southend Airport has become the first airport in the UK to install a dedicated and purpose-built de-icing facility.

In an effort to slash delays due to ice and wintry conditions, aircraft will be able to taxi to the facility for de-icing instead of being de-iced on the stand.

Aiming for a quicker and more efficient de-cing process, the CEO of Southend Airport, Glyn Jones, stated that the new facility demonstrates how the airport is leading the way in innovation for the aviation industry in the UK.

Jones also stated: “For both travelers and airlines there is nothing more frustrating than bad weather leading to delays, so we’ve – quite literally – invested a solution to try to minimise that.”
