Swissport “confident” that proposal will be accepted by workers at Liverpool John Lennon

Swissport says it is “confident” that a new proposal it has put forward to baggage handlers and other workers at Liverpool John Lennon Airport will be accepted.

Yesterday, chaos over the bank holiday weekend was prevented at the north west UK gateway, when a planned strike was suspended. Around 200 Swissport employees, represented by the GMB union were set to walk out in a dispute ove wages and safety issues.

The strike action centred around two separate contracts – the Swissport EasyJet contract and Swissport mainline.

A Swissport spokesperson said suspension of the strike will allow the GMB to ballot its members on a new proposal put forward by Swissport.

The ground handler added: “We are confident that this proposal, which has been drafted following considered negotiations, will deliver the best outcome for our employees, customers and airline passengers. We are encouraged that the GMB will recommend that the proposal is accepted by its members and welcome this breakthrough.”
