UK airports: Crime has doubled in past two years

According to recently published figures in the UK, crime at airports and round airports in the country has doubled in just two years.

The BBC in the UK has reported that police figures demonstrate 5,234 crimes were committed close to or at airports in England and Wales last year, compared to 2,432 two years ago in 2016.

A number of the crimes reported include possession of dangerous items and objects such as CS spray, knives and air rifles.

The statistics also includes many vehicle offenses.

London Stansted Airport was noted as the airport in the UK with the highest crime rate.

A spokesperson for the police force in the area stated to the BBC that the airport remains very safe and most offenses were solved via community resolution.
